Soured melody, sinking minor key
ship beset bay side in a doldrum
pinched between the fingers of
escaping pillars, lanterns escarped
vision of freedom like a muse’s lurid song.
There in the hollow of a giant’s crotch
Rhodes taunts our pirate with a ghostly sneer.
Furling banner, stolen roarsmen lashed
sapping strength of soldiers whimpering
the caged dogs, curs, dripping spittle
a fleet of fishermen approaching
their nets a flag of freedmen seeking vengeance.
