Briefly Forever

Matryoshka nesting,
blankets a world of their own
tents over lovers in a dorm room
false impressions of fidelity
like the prayer of a gambler at the slots.
Time is sometimes plain,
like a childhood friend gone away
remembered glacially, like Frenchmen
marching onto Moscow as winter sets in;
sometimes a blistering affair,
passionate, enthralling – staccato
lasting briefly forever.
